Crows Nest is one of the most underrated towns on the Darling Downs. It has just about everything you could ask for - shire council, library, art gallery, tennis courts, swimming pool, hospital, ambulance, rural fire brigade, real estate agent, caravan park, chemist, IGA supermarket, an excellent antiques shop, cordial factory - and - yes it still has a bank and a bakery. Crows Nest Bakery is situated on the Toowoomba Road just on the left before you hit the village green in the centre of town. We would recommend the large variety of breads, pies and savoury pastries, all of which have won prizes in major competitions. The cakes, biscuits and slices are still OK, but not quite in the same league as the other lines. We can however vouch for their vegetable pasties! |

With the angle parking, it is quite common to see working utilities pulled up for smoko or lunch. When we visited real estate agent Joe Smith to work on his website, we found he tended to have a brunch for morning tea. So if the locals think its good enough for them, who are we to argue?? |

Most of the retail shops, including the bakery, are only six days a week. We always stay in a lovely little park just outside of town - Crowsnest Caravan Park. The drive from Toowoomba along the New England Highway is quite scenic and picturesque. So next time you head north from Toowoomba, continue on past Hampton and continue on to Crows Nest. There is a lovely town spirit and youll be made very welcome indeed. Absolutely recommended! |
