Kirra Beach - Gold Coast - Queensland

Just north of the NSW/Queensland border is Kirra Beach. We often use this spot for breakfast as the chances of a park later in the day are fairly remote except of course in winter. However, this spot has the lot! First up you are right on the beach with 180 degree sea views. Next you have a very clean huge toilet and shower block a few steps away.

Now if you park rear end in at the southern far end of the carpark you can even put your awning up and have nice grass underfoot, but you do need to be early to score this position. Interestingly in doing this we have never had a visit from a ranger.

Just across the road you have a newsagent, a health food shop, the choice of two top bakeries, a fantastic fish and chip shop and a post box! Is this 6 star living or what? No easy access at all to filling your water tanks.

The walking opportunities here are stunning! Try going south along the beach front walkway. The first thing that strikes you is how pleasant the locals are and how health conscious too! Lots of retirees come up to us and ask for a peek inside - we should be on commission with Winnebago.

We give accolades of praise to the fantastic local councils (this walk takes you through two States). Rainbow Bay is absolutely delightful and the walk around Greenmount Hill is breathtaking. So many thoughtful touches like a drinking water fountain every 100 or so metres, the wonderful elevated viewing platforms and the fantastic designer quality Jarah and stainless steel tables and benches shaped like surfboards - so good in fact we wouldn't hesitate to use them in our dining room at home. Don 't miss the beautiful made made waterfall along the way. Watching the efforts of the surfboard riders is a popular pastime. You can even get a coffee or work out at a gym as you follow this route.

Not a good idea at all to try and free camp in any park around the Gold Coast as rangers are very active and fines are huge. Dogs are most welcome and doggy doo bags are supplied for free. It's a different story on the beach though as there is as $1500.00 fine with a sign every 100 metres or so! To find Kirra just head towards Coolangatta and Tweed Heads and just follow the coast. It is about 2 kms north of Coolangatta - the quieter and much prettier part of the Gold Coast. You wont be disappointed. Absolutely recommended.
