This is a great smoko spot for those visiting Carnarvon National Park and travelling on to Emerald etc. The picnic area has bitumen parking and is ideal for caravans and motorhomes, but you can't get under any shade. Water and rubbish bins, but you need to walk towards town for toilets. It does have a really nice covered BBQ area with excellent tables and overall is an absolutely first class smoko spot. The council do a magnificent job of landscaping and mowing and it would have to be the best presented town for miles in any direction. It is a very house proud town and there just isn't a trace of graffiti anywhere a fairly rare thing in so many country towns. Nothing is perfect though as the town just isn't friendly towards those just wishing to rest overnight. |

three minutes of us stopping at around 4pm for smoko, a scruffy unshaven council
employee said "I hope you're not intending to spend the night here".
Sad stuff Springsure! We got to talking to some others in town who had stayed
in the only caravan park. They remarked on how unfriendly to the point of rudeness
the managers were plus the park needs maintenance as they claimed level sites
are few and far between. We didn't get to check this out personally as it was
late in the afternoon, however if anyone has stayed there and found it terrific

| Overnight stays are also not permitted
at the delightful Lions Park under Virgin Rock either. We found
this rather odd, as it is well out of town and travelers stopping over could only
benefit the town. We refueled and bought our supplies elsewhere - a shame really
as we would have liked to stay. The area is at the foot of some wonderful mountains,
but we couldn't photograph this as it was doing a rare thing in this neck of the
woods - raining! Could fellow motorhomers kindly contact us if things improve
in Springsure and they open a rest area as we would love to return it is just
