Awning Tie Downs to Suit Aussie Traveller Awnings

This is a simple solution to the very real problem of how do you anchor your awning to prevent damage in sudden unexpected wind gusts. All you do is pop rivet or screw a couple of stainless steel Ronstan cleats onto the end of each arm. These are used as positive anchor points for standard corner tent ropes. Using doubles increases the chance of nothing giving way in softer earth. A low cost solution that works well and stops damage to your awning and far neater than simply wrapping a rope around the roller as doing this eventually removes all the paint from the area.

The photo below shows various other options that we feel would also work. You can find all of these examples in marine outlets such as Whitworth Marine etc. All are stainless steel and should last the life of the motorhome.

The ideas below on an A&E awning take a different approach in that all you do is hook a gadget called a SNAP CLIP onto the roller axle. You can get cheap versions of these at Bunnings or really good stainless steel ones at marine outlets. They are very easy to use without any tools and you simply thread the tent rope through. As you are on the shaft the awning fittings don't mark. An improvement could be to slip a piece of nylon tubing over the top half. If you have it, shrink wrap would do a similar job.
