Camec Triple Lock Door - Coaster Conversion
| This would have to be the best installation of a Camec Triple Lock door we have ever come across on an owner Coaster conversion. It just looks like it was meant to be and so much nicer than the domestic screen doors so many of us use. The Camec is not cheap - expect to pay around $900.00. The door doubles as a security door as well as a flyscreen. Yes it is far from perfect but we love the things with warts and all! Camec are so close with this design. It needs more attention to detail in the lock area as at present it can be too easily defeated by a determined intruder, however most DIY people could solve some of these problems with a simple jamb modification similar to what Hehr do. Just in passing - the little earth straps on Camec doors are a very important safety item. Many people seem to think they are there to stop you getting zapped by static electricity. Not so - they are a legal statutory requirement under AS/NZ 3001:2001. Briefly the rule states that all doors in an RV with a metal chassis MUST be earthed. Hinges are NOT regarded as a suitable earth even if your ohm metre indicates continuity, and they even define the wire size and type. Accidents can happen so easily. Say you pass a lead through a doorway and somehow or other the active touches the frame of the door because someone trips over it. Who me! The RCD/ELCD safety devices will not trip if the door is not physically earthed to the main chassis. As soon as you touch the door you are dead! So if you are fitting ANY door please remember this vital safety info - best to borrow the SAA Wiring Rules etc. from your local library if you are doing your own conversion. |

| UPDATE March 2004 Yet another manufacturer has come up with a solution to the Hehr door security problem. Roamsafe on the Goldcoast in Queensland. This door uses an entirely different approach in that the curved top uses special moulded nylon inserts. The grill is extra tough 7mm aluminium. The biggest breakthrough however is the low cost - well under $400.00. You can have Crimsafe type stainless steel mesh for under $550.00. A huge plus with these doors is they will not fail even if the hinges are ground off due to the clever way the edges wrap around the frame when closed - we have never come across this clever idea before. THe door will be on display at the CMCA Tassie Rally More details on the lock etc. on this page. |
