Digitalk Handheld UHF Radios - Low Cost

Apart from buying secondhand this is currently the cheapest way into CB in your motorhome. Range is stated as 5 kms and you can access all 40 UHF channels. CMCA for instance use Channel 20. In practice you leave your radio on that channel so that you can hear anyone calling.

Apart from on the road communications handheld CBs are great for backing directions, shopping, walking, fishing and just the general security of knowing you can contact others in the immediate area.

These radios are readily available in Australia - Brisbane Car Sound with branches all over Queensland has them for $128.00 a pair - phone 13 11 77 (no web) or from Australian PC Market Online - very good website and they seem to be way cheaper than BCS. Go to the homepage and enter Digitalk into the search button as there is no UHF section. Pricing starts from $66.00 and they have three variations. One kit has everything as pictured above on the right - 4 AAA Ni-cad batteries, charger, headset etc. Another has the set plus a headset. Interestingly the headset can be voice operated if you wish giving you true hands free. Rather oddly you can't use a mobile on the move but there doesn't seem to be anything stopping you using a radio on the move. We don't actually own one of these and the information was sent to us via a caravanning friend who read our article on UHF on our A'van site.
