Dome Type TV Aerials - New Type
| This new type of dome aerial called simply The Dome is popping up all over the place. We spotted this on a Paradise Motorhome - a very neat installation. Earlier versions had the most dreadful looking internal control we have ever come across, however that has all been fixed! To operate you don't raise up like a Winegard. You simply push up the big knob about 25mm. Tune the TV then simply turn the knob until you get the clearest picture. Some ads are a wee bit misleading in this area and imply that the aerial is omnidirectional and needs no adjusting. As we write this in the bush at Imbil 200 kms north of Brisbane we are getting 2, 9 and 10. The latter two channels are really good. Channel 2 is however only just watchable and we can't see how this style of aerial will ever really work well on this channel - sadly one of our favourites toooooo! We are testing a unit for Solar Panel Xpress (March 2002) and it is just resting on three Tupperware containers on the roof (let's hope we remember this before we drive off in the morning!) We will be doiing a full review shortly. These units work out far cheaper than a Winegard ($680 installed) as they cost around $300 before fitting. A huge advantage is nothing sticking up to get caught in low branches however the mounting method isn't at all strong so other problems could arise with time. |
