Around-Oz: Living the Dream!

Fitting a Honda into a Winnie the Easy Way!

This would have to be one of the best engineered generator set ups we have come across - built by the expert team at Drydens Trailers the 5th wheeler people at Yatalla just south of Brisbane. The unit had to be "shoe horned" into an older Leisure Seeker on a Mercedes Sprinter. Gary modified the main bin and inserted the Honda on a slide out bang in the middle. The older bin was ditched as it did not utilise the full height available. A rather odd omission by Winnebago. It turned out that the new deeper bin fitted in all the gear now taken up by the Honda - a true win win and it just goes to show what can be done when one dons a thinking cap!

The attention to detail here and excellent workmanship is superb and Gary Dryden was justifiably very proud of the end result. Even the locking handle has a rubber cap so you don't damage delicate fingers! The usually not too strong Winnebago bin locking mechanism was strengthened. Servicing the Honda is a breeze as the unit slides completely out but is totally safe as stops prevent it coming right out. You only need one hand to operate the slide. The cost worked out at $600.00. Gary advised us that Drydens will do mods and repairs to all brand motorhomes. The naughty photo below came about because the owners of the Winnie were so impressed with 5th wheelers - they had never looked at them closely before. Drydens will also do quality signs for your rig. This rig also had an extra aluminium water tank fitted for just $200.00.

You can contact Drydens by Email at drydentrailers@powerup.com.au or by phone on (07) 3807 2544. Lots more info about 5th wheelers on their Website. Absolutely recommended!!
