Electrolux Modifications - Boost Performance

This is an excellent example of modifications to boost the performance of Electrolux fridges. A sail track fitted across the top vent allows the easy installation of a low cost shade. The complete compartment interior has been insulated. The standard Electrolux vents have been replaced with opening vents. We come across many caravanners who have wrongly fitted a single larger door. Having two vents causes the convection currents to flow and thereby remove heat. There is also a small 12 volt computer fan in this installation (not shown).

Despite all these modifications this motorhome still does not comply with Electrolux recommendations. They require the top vent to be much higher and a deflector baffle to be fitted. It was impossible to do this in this instance as there was no room above the cabinet. It all gets back to the simple requirement that manufacturers adhere to the letter with the fridge makers requirements. We totally agree with motorhome book author Collyn Rivers, in that you are far better off persevering with a gas fridge rather than going 100% DC as the energy requirements are far easier to manage. An improvement that could be made to this set up would be to move the sun shade much further up as at present it would be hindering air exchange. Electrolux mention this extensively on their European site even advising never to have your fridge on the same side as your annex. Another slight improvement could be made by directing the flue outside as has been done on the standard Electrolux vents. This of course would only be used when travelling on 12 volt with the door shut.
