Foldaway Double Bed - Scissor Lift
| This is a rather ingenious solution to having a made up bed always available yet not encroaching on the living area at all. We came across it in a custom built Sunliner owned by Keith and Robyn Proctor. The bed sits on top of the rear lounge/dining area. It is lowered via a couple of scissor lift brackets. You do need two people to do this to stop jamming but once mastered it only takes a few seconds to lower or raise. The photo at left shows it in the ready to sleep position. The photo on the right shows just how far down it lowers. |

The photo below left shows the bed in the about to be lowered position. The photo at right shows the bed as stowed for travel and using the dinette. Overall this system has a lot of advantages especially for those who cant manage climbing up a ladder to use a cab over style bed. The main drawback is the loss of just about all rear high mounted storage cupboards. This of course is offset a little in that the over the cab area becomes available for extra storage. This system has been used for almost two years and the owners are delighted with it. |
