Fridge Temperature Alert
| This gadget from Dick Smiths has been around for a couple of years now and we have seen them in lots of RV's used simply as an outside/ inside thermometer. It does a really good job of this and is fairly easy to instal. We did a story on this in the DIY section on the A'van site. Now a much better use for this device is to let you know if your fridge is running too hot. It will detect if you are out of gas or the power has gone off. It is fairly easy to set and you can turn it off when the fridge goes into storage. It also lets you know the cabinet temperature. We have installed several of these for RV friends. The best and neatest way is to drill a 1/8" diameter hole through the rear wall of the fridge. Usually there is nothing down there if you keep this hole towards the bottom. Next cut the cable. Pass through the wall with the sensor inside the fridge. Just attach it with the double sided tape provided or use Araldite. Join the cable using a twin connector. We have crimped fittings useless for this job. If you are good at soldering a neat job can be done using shrink wrap. We use the old fashioned terminals with zero problems. Polarity is not a problem but keep it the same if this worries you. |
