Fitting a Gopher to a Small Motorhome

This truly is innovation at its best. When the
mobility of ones partner is severely reduced it calls for lots of thought.
Faced with no more motorhoming unless this problem was solved this clever
solution evolved. First up the vehicle was a small 2 litre petrol job
and although built as a motorhome space was at a definite premium. Everything
you see on the top left picture fits into the centre drop down boot. You
do have to fold down the seat and handlebars on the Gopher before storing.
The scooter also fits in there as well! Everything is constructed from
aluminium and zinc anneal sheet. A winch is used to raise and lower the
base plate so the able partner does not end up in the same boat. In doing
this job two extra bins were added either side to hold bits and bobs and
the rear bumper was modified to take the spare tyres. This was actually
a huge improvement as the cab chassis was a Mazda using two different
sized wheels. These as supplied by Mazda are a real nightmare to remove
and replace, as the carrier is a fair way in under the rear. In our view
this set up deserves an innovation award from CMCA - spotted at the CMCA
Barcaldine Rally in 2002. |
