West Bend Pure Magic Water Distiller

There is possibly only one way to obtain quality pure water and that is by the distilling process. What happens is water is converted to steam leaving in theory at least all the contaminants behind when it is recondensed back into another container. The following is the manufacturers blurb:-

The countertop Water Magic Distiller stores and provides Pure Water on tap, effectively removing more than 99.8% of standard water impurities. The natural purification process, by steam distillation and carbon filtration, produces pure clean drinking water essential for assisting the body in cleansing blood and providing vital cell nourishment

Why The Water Magic?

* High quality countertop design with unique recessed heating base to reduce scale build up and fan-delayed start for improved efficiency
* The Magic also incorporates a post carbon treatment system and a removable container for easy filling
* Provides a convenient source of pure water free from inorganic minerals, impurities and contaminants
* Cost effective compared to any bottled water, more convenient and less plastic waste, designed with external heating for a longer life

So there you have it - lots of info on the Internet with many RVers swearing by this product. The main drawbacks are cost at AU$727.00 to $795.00 and it takes 4 hours on 240 volt to make 4 litres of water. This could prove impractical for those not using powered sites. The big advantage is that it will purify most water BUT no claims are made for salt water. Makers claim it will remove heavy metals, chlorine and all Giardia and Crypto Sporidium. More info on 1800 88 88 80 on one of the many stockists. This would appear to be a product where one could buy on price alone. We particularly liked the way it does not use immersion heating.
