Around-Oz: Living the Dream!

Winnebago 2304 Review - 2003 continued . . .

Storage

Starting at the front of the motorhome is a good sized wardrobe. It is not full height so it is a good spot for a TV as there is twin power point on the top. It's also a wonderful fan area. Under the entrance top step is a great area suitable for shoes, umbrellas etc. and it's almost a metre deep and has a door. The rear overhead lockers now have dividers at long last!. There is a small chest of draws near the fridge (4 draws). These are fantastic for socks, hankies and undies. Under the fridge is a good size draw for trays etc. and above the fridge is a cupboard you can either use for a microwave or general storage. Hidden behind the rear panel is a power point for the microwave even if you haven't specified one. Behind the drivers seat is another shoe area, but this has no door but nevertheless is a great spot for slippers and doggie leads! The picture below gives you a good idea of the extra floor height as this picture was taken in the Sprinter cabin looking to the rear. Under seat storage is different to any other motorhome we have come across.

This shot shows the new step height up into the motorhome

Outside storage is cavernous and we will let the pictures tell the story! The locker lids are all top quality with good rubber seals. The old idea of drop hinges has been discontinued. Notice how tall these lockers are?

The following photos show the amount of gear you can carry and still have heaps of room. In our view it is a brilliant system, but you do need to get good sized containers. We had no time to do this and it sure shows doesn't it? Lights inside the bins have been thoughtfully provided, a most welcome idea. Stainless steel holding clamps have also been fitted, a departure from the old pecker type. They are far more positive, but you MUST have the locks depressed or you will hit the open windows.

The photo above left shows the driver's side bin. All bins are nicely lined with vinyl lino and finished off with brass cover strip - a very neat job in what is afterall only a utility area. Looking at the photo above right shows the "pass through" section. Now you can't pop a table through there as it rather oddly has a support right through the centre. Nevertheless it is a fantastic idea that could be developed more and one that we really appreciate as we have never been able to carry stretchers before. This opens up your camping possibilities enormously. For instance you can easily carry a large folding sun lounge! This could make you the envy of every other not so lucky motorhomer! To do this Winnebago have had to resort to timber framing to keep the weight down. Further down the track of design refinement it would be possible to get rid of this obstruction simply by using an alluminium subframe under the floor, as it is not a heavy load bearing area, being under the table. This would open up all sorts of possibilities - flat tables etc.
