Around-Oz: Living the Dream!

Stan & Maree Bennetts 33' Dryden Trailer Home Review - continued . . .

The bedroom in this travel home is a cut above the rest with plenty of storage and full head height. We liked the very neat pelmets with timber trim along the bottom. Plenty of light for reading in bed.

The floor has a special coating that really looks the business and is very hard wearing. Loads of storage everywhere you look in this RV. The tea towel rack is yet another great thought.

A double width pull out pantry is adjacent to the kitchen. More attention to detail - this is a special shelf for the coffee machine - note the cord entry plug at the rear. All cupboards have New Guinea Rosewood edge trims.

The built in ironing board is pretty rare in RVs but this one works really well. Two pushes and it's away. We loved the corner draws and can see other high end manufacturers copying this idea.

Pictured below is the Dometic in bench top garbage bin. This is not cheap at over $100.00 but it is such a nice solution and looks so much better than a plastic bag hanging on a cupboard catch! You can easily increase the capacity of one of these by making a much deeper container. The smoked grey top really looks good in the gloss laminex used in this RV.

We failed to take a picture of the kitchen proper! However here is a great view of the sink. Note the separate drinking water tank - filtered of course. We failed to photograph the fridge! Anyway it is a two door Waeco - the one with the best door lock in the business. Dryden use Waeco exclusively due to low amps and reliability.

The toilet is directly opposite the shower. It uses a ceramic bowl and is a drop type with a macerator. Garry Dryden told us that he will be fitting the new vacuum type by Dometic - VT 2500. These use a cassette and are completely odourless. The cassette can be mounted up to 8 metres away from the bathroom. The photo below right we thought a brilliant idea being "oldies". It is in the rear wall of the shower and you stick your foot in there when you want to dry your tootsies!

Tons of storage in the bathroom and fantastic lighting levels. Again the Rosewood edges really give it a luxury look. Double mirrors give the illusion of lots of space.

Still in the bathroom area there is a really good Electrolux washing machine. The larger Dryden 5th Wheelers would have to have the best bathroom/laundry set ups available in any RV regardless of cost. The layout pictured is just so practical. It is located in a hallway between the bathroom and the toilet area. So many very expensive motorhomes STILL insist on installing washing machines in a "bin" outside the motorhome. We liken this to having your laundry at home under the house! The photo below left shows the electrical control centre. Drydens use a different type of water gauge to the norm. The senders install from the top so there is no chance of leakage. Note the use of lots of breakers as well as the mandatory RCDs. The metre in the bottom right gives readings of amps put into the batteries and amps used giving a rough idea of remaining operating time. This RV had three solar panels, four 100 amp Trojan batteries, and a Honda 3.0ie remote start generator. A top quality inverter was installed in a bin adjacent to the battery box - text book stuff! (1800 watts full sine wave).

Moving outside via the widest RV door we have ever walked though you come to the outside fridge/freezer The Waeco slides out on a mechanism made by Drydens. It locks in place just in case you forget to lock the bin door! Note the full carpet lining to the bin and the gas struts.
