Around-Oz: Living the Dream!

Bob & Anne Caddow
8 Metre Fuso Review - continued . . .

THE BOUDOIR!
Imagine waking up beside the seaside and as you open your eyes all you see is a beautiful beach - all this without even lifting your head too. Well Robert and Anne told us this happens almost every day in the Fuso, as they have the excellent Hehr louvre type windows on both sides of the bedroom. Another advantage is superb cross ventilation when breezes are a bit on the light side, particularly in the tropics. And yes, you can easily make this Island bed. Anne's hand made quilt is a work of art and definitely adds a bit more glamour to the bedroom. Absolutely cavernous under bed storage - strut assisted of course. Cupboards go right across the rear with a "his & hers" wardrobe - sure to stop all arguments! We liked the CD/Radio mounted on the bed head - great idea for listening to "Macca" on Sundays! Now remember Robert came to our Lemaire talk? Well guess where he fitted the little Lemaire? Of all places under the bed! Another clever idea was the linen basket in one corner of the bed with easy access.

ELECTRICAL
This RV is really well set up for camping away from hook ups with 3 X 64 and 1 X 32 watt Unisolar shade tolerant solar panels, and a Honda 3i remote start generator. Batteries were easy access on slides with a double layer set up. The electrical panel, almost a metre long, was a "power pervs" dream as you can see absolutely everything from the dining/sofa area. The gen set is also controlled from here and you can even equalise the batteries with the press of a button. Great to see light switches near the entry door as this feature in sadly lacking on some volume produced RVs. S.E.A Aussie made 1300-watt charger/inverter - top gear.

CREATURE COMFORTS
A roof mounted Dometic air conditioner takes care of the summer heat. Surround sound with speakers outside as well were connected to the DVD and LCD TV. A standard Winegard aerial, but no digital set top box just yet (Robert hasn’t been to that seminar!). Heating was taken care of by way of a Webasto diesel heater, simply the best in the business and so efficient. The ever-reliable Four Seasons hatch looked after general ventilation.

GENERAL CONSTRUCTION
We liked the use of metal insertion where panels had to be joined in the bathroom area. It added another dimension, yet was so sensible. The complete head lining was replaced with a pre-finished white panel called Polygloss. We particularly liked the exposed wood joints - so practical, yet good looking and strong. Marine rails around several shelves were a very nice feature. The floor really is a bit of a masterpiece - vinyl with hand cut inserts - looks a million dollars. Tassie Oak finish throughout turned out really well - satin sheen finish. Omnistor awnings on all windows keep out the glare.
