Around-Oz: Living the Dream!

John & Marcia Holbrook's Mazda Review continued . . .

Lots of good ideas up here in the driving position! Mounted on the dash is a Street Pilot GPS. This is interfaced with a Li'l Traveller computer. A 15 LCD flat screen is mounted on the roof between the driver and passenger. This allows John to use extra software and you do get a terrific view of the "map" without the screen impairing your vision. This is just about the best set up we have ever come across. We do worry about the Li'l Traveller component though as we have had several emails on the durability of this product.

With John having an electrical background its only natural that the electrics are of an extremely high standard and really well thought out. This easily viewed and accessed electrical control area is right next to the bed. You can for instance just reach up when still in bed and turn on the Webasto diesel heater. Sheer luxury! You can monitor the batteries using the PL20 - again whilst still in bed! Even the mobile phones get recharged in this area.

We had to pop this photo in! This is the first Mazda we have come across with a little Lemaire washing machine in the bathroom! To use it you simple pop it in the hall and connect up the water - yes you can do all your washing inside the motorhome. Now there is a bit of a moral here - we did a few talks on Webasto heaters and Lemaire washing machines at Quercas Park and at Casino Village. Yes you guessed it John came to these and is now a bit poorer! I always panic a bit when someone comes up to me and says "I've taken your advice". Over 100 motorhomers have written to us and advised that they are tickled pink with their Lemaire. Our favourite is a chap who installed it in the wardrobe!

You can contact John and Marcia Holbrook by email at holbrook@netspace.net.au. In summing up this is a rather fantastic first attempt at a conversion. It is most interesting how the Tassie conversions are so different to the mainland jobs - they definitely think outside the square!
