The upper deck is on Level 9 and is just about all glass and is reached from the outside - no lift. The photo below left is as far as you can get towards the bridge - nevertheless you can easily see the Captain doing his bit. You can't do a "Titanic" in the bows sadly! The views up here are pretty stunning, as you are eight stories up. |

The seating is quite comfortable plastic BBQ variety. Yes there is a good bar with very friendly and helpful staff. One of the nice touches with the Spirit is the provision of free ice water with lemon. You will find this on the end of all bars at all levels. As you can see below some of the seating is quite deluxe.

During daylight crossings there is onboard entertainment at this level. The music wasn't really to our taste and is obviously aimed at the younger set. As you can see, despite the ship being totally full, there is room to move and sit everywhere. You can even take a quick kip if you wish! It's really lovely up here with the sun pouring in the windows. Level 10 has an open air bar, but this only operates in fair weather.

Moving down a couple of decks things are a lot more palatial. TVs are scattered everywhere and there a couple of "walls" of TVs. Now you don't get local TV at all, but you do get movies, music clips, sporting highlights and bloopers etc. A good mix. Everything is bright and airy - no way anyone could ever suffer from claustrophobia here! The coloured lighting at night is really koooool!

Lots of intimate little bars on this floor as well. We spent a lot of time in the comfy lounges shown in the photo bottom right. If you are on a special diet it is a good move to bring "supplies" with you. There are no rules etc. phohibiting this. This might be imagination but the food costs less on the deck above and you can get simple things like pies. The picture windows are absolutely huge and also kept pretty clean.

Children are very well looked after. The play area shown below requires guardian supervision and is quite secure - Pirate Pete's Kid's Room. Lots of comfy seats nearby if you want to keep the kiddies in your sight. For the older kiddies there are of course video games in a separate area.

One of the highlights of the trip is passing the "other" Spirit about halfway across. This shot shows how quickly the weather can change. We started in brilliant sunshine. The photo below right shows the cabin key. These are reprogrammed each trip for security. We had a few hassles as ours wouldn't work. If this happens just go to reception and they will fix it in seconds as long as you have your ticket with you. You do not need the plastic key to open the door from the inside, so in an emergency you wont get locked in. Two cards are provided - a nice touch.

The cabin area is absolutely huge and you will get lost sometimes! The photo gives you a bit of an idea of this. Sound proofing cabin to cabin is very good. The bunks are a bit narrow so forget about "doubling" up! Good reading lamps and plenty of pillows. Everything is spotlessly clean. The bathrooms are designed to be hosed out. No nasty smells. Now you might be wondering why the heck we have included a photo of the ladder? Well it's specially for Winnebago owners with a cabover bed. This set up solves the problem of the lugs popping out or breaking.

Each room has an ensuite complete with shower and toilet. The shower even has a mixer and lots of hot water - although you do find yourself saving water like true motorhomers! Yes you can use your laptop! All cabins have a 240 volt normal power point usually under the bedside table. There is a multi voltage job in the bathroom for shavers etc. Soap and towels are provided. There is no radio/TV/piped music etc..

The twin cabins have slightly wider beds and of course you get a water view. This does cost extra. The picture windows once again are huge. The cabins all have a lovely European feel and are very tastefully decorated. The twins are always on the outside so all have water views.
